LUMRS Role Descriptions
This role involves overseeing and the work of the whole committee and being ultimately responsible for the running of a society. Other duties include liaising with the medical school and other external organisations, and chairing committee meetings. **must have been on the committee for at least a year**
This role involves assisting the Chair in running the society and sharing the workload. Specific tasks can be assigned to this role. **must have been on the committee for at least a year**
This involves managing LUMRS finances and budget, which includes liaising with Dr Norman and the rest of the committee. The treasurer will also help to organise the LUMRS conference funding awards. Another key role for the treasurer is to co-ordinate future grant applications for the society.
This role involves being the main point of communication for the society. This means communicating with our members through email, Facebook and other outlets. In addition to this, the secretary also takes minutes at committee meetings and books rooms for events as well as keeping track of the LUMRS schedule.
LINK coordinators (x2)
The LINK coordinators will be in charge of the well-established LINK initiative. This involved contacting supervisors (mostly via email) to collect projects, compiling the project list, receiving and sorting student applications. This role is also responsible for obtaining feedback from current LINK students. LINK coordinators will also work together to organise the annual LINK mini conference, supported by the rest of the committee.
**Please note that these two positions are only available to students currently in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year as it takes time to fully train up for this role and we aim to maintain continuity. The new coordinators will be supported by current committee members**
Mock-AFP Interview Coordinators (x2)
LUMRS has been working closely with the medical school and Dr Hsu to organise mock AFP interviews for the past 2 years. In this role, you will coordinate the organisation of this event on a weekend in late October or early November for Final year students who wish to apply for an AFP. Your role will include communicating with junior doctors who will act as judges on the day, publicising the event to final year students and liaising with Dr Hsu for the successful running of the day.
This position is ideal for you if you are thinking of applying for an AFP yourself. In this role you will gain valuable inside information to help with your application and you will also get ample opportunity to network with current AFP candidates in the region.
**Please note that these two positions are NOT available to students who will be in their final year after September 2019 **
The SPARKS coordinator is in charge of organising the SPARKS talks; these are research talks that LUMRS host on a regular basis. This involved identifying and contacting potential speakers as well as students to present at the events.
SPARKS bulletin coordinator
This role is responsible for producing the SPARKS bulletin, LUMRS’ magazine. We produce one edition of the bulletin each term, and the coordinator is responsible for organising this. Please note the coordinator is not responsible for writing all the content of the magazine – students are invited to contribute – but the coordinator will be responsible for article selection and designing of the bulletin.
INSPIRE liaison/ Events coordinator
In this role, you will be the link between LUMRS and the INSPIRE initiative, the main funding body for the society. You will also work with colleagues at the Universities of Nottingham and East Anglia to organise some elements of the next INSPIRE National Medical Students Conference. Additionally, you will to help to organise the various events run by the society throughout the year.
This role involves managing the LUMRS website. A handover with full explanation will be given prior to starting the role.
