Role Descriptions

Applications for next year's committee are now open here. Below are the descriptions for each position

Chair

This role involves overseeing and the work of the whole committee and being ultimately responsible for the running of the society. Other duties include liaising with the medical school and other external organisations, and chairing committee meetings.

**Must have previous experience in a committee of any society for at least a year**

Vice-Chair

This role involves assisting the Chair in running the society and sharing the workload. You will also be the link between LUMRS and the INSPIRE initiative, the main funding body for the society, and work with colleagues at the Universities of Nottingham and East Anglia to organise some elements of the 6th East Midlands Student Research Conference (being held in Norwich, autumn 2018).

Treasurer

This involves managing LUMRS finances and budget, which includes liaising with Prof Norman and the rest of the committee. The treasurer will also help to organise the LUMRS conference funding awards. Another key role for the treasurer is to co-ordinate future grant applications for the society.

Secretary

This role involves being the main point of contact for the society. This means communicating with our members through email, Facebook and other social media outlets.  In addition to this, the secretary also takes minutes at committee meetings and books rooms for events as well as keeping track of the LUMRS schedule.

LINK coordinators (x2)

The LINK coordinators will be in charge of the well-established LINK initiative. This involves contacting supervisors (mostly via email) to collect projects, compiling the project list, receiving and sorting student applications. You will also be responsible for obtaining feedback from current LINK students. LINK coordinators will also work together to organise the annual LINK mini conference, supported by the rest of the committee.

**Please note that these two positions are only available to students currently in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year **

SPARKS coordinator/ INSPIRE liaison

The SPARKS coordinator is in charge of organising the SPARKS talks; these are research talks that LUMRS host on a regular basis. This involves identifying and contacting potential speakers as well as students to present at the events.

SPARKS bulletin coordinator

This role is responsible for producing the SPARKS bulletin, LUMRS’ magazine. We produce one edition of the bulletin each term, and the coordinator is responsible for organising this. Please note the coordinator is not responsible for writing all the content of the magazine; students are invited to contribute, and other committee members are expected to contribute too.

Webmaster

This role involves managing the LUMRS website. Training will be given on how to do this. Additional roles can be assigned to you based on your interest.
